Chinatown Badminton Laneway Club POP-UP, a Multimedia Exhibition on Sports Inclusion & Move8 Walk-a-Hunt at Sydney Streets Haymarket
A part of the 2024 AFT International Sports Fitness Festival
The City of Sydney’s Sydney Streets activation returns to Haymarket on 21 September 2024 and brings along a vibrant festival vibe to Sydney’s Chinatown. Sydney Streets was originally created as part of the community recovery plan, supporting the economic and social recovery of businesses and local communities impacted by the pandemic. Local businesses, community groups and performers will take centre stage at this one-day event, where streets will be closed off to major traffic from 11am – 10pm, and everyone is welcome from all corners of the city for a ‘block party’.

Badminton in Chinatown!
Time: 21 September 2024 from 11am – 5pm
Cost: Free
Description: Badminton and Para-Badminton enthusiasts, you are invited to the newly established Chinatown Badminton Laneway Club pop-up taking place in Kimber Lane (behind Emperor’s Garden Restaurant) between Dixon and Hay Streets.

FIRST PERSON LANDING THE SHUTTLE INTO THE FURTHEST BASKET WINS THE TOP PRIZE!
Mechanics: In collaboration with Badminton NSW, the AFT International Sports Fitness Festival brings you BADMINTON! Come and try! Smash, hit and aim for the farthest basket on the opposite side of the net. Participants will experience fast shuttles fed by a machine, all you’ll need to do is to aim to hit and land the shuttle over the net into the basket to win prizes! The furthest and smallest basket contains the top prize. Other baskets contain smaller prizes with mystery prizes in the baskets right below the net. Ready to smash it?!
What can I win?
One grand prize winner will win a Chinatown Badminton Laneway Club Trophy & Dinner for two at Emperor’s Garden Restaurant
Five consolation prize winners will win and $88 cash*
Ten mystery prize winners will win drinks vouchers to be redeemed at a local Chinatown establishment.

Sports Inclusion Exhibition
featuring Paralympian Gold Medal Swimmer, Matt Levy OAM.
On the eve of the opening ceremony of the Paralympics Paris 2024, we invited Gold Medal Swimmer and Paralympian, Matt Levy OAM to speak about Sports Inclusion and his experiences at the last Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics Games. Matt continues to inspire people from all walks of life.
His book, “Going the Distance” is on sale at $30 and 10% of the proceeds from the book sales will be contributed towards our Paralympics Australia fundraiser campaign

The Move8 Walk-a-Hunt @ Sydney Streets Haymarket
A destination-focused in-person and virtual reality experience that gets participants unravelling clues while accomplishing missions along the route - it’s fun and it’s free for individuals! We look forward to welcoming you.
The 3KM route has eight checkpoints located in the Haymarket precinct and it starts and ends at the Community Bank Darling Square. In addition to the walk and in partnership with Badminton NSW, participants will be challenged to a badminton game in a laneway in Chinatown. Who knows what could transpire? Could there be hidden athletic talents we uncover in Chinatown for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics?
Those at home can also join in the fun by watching a 360° video and following the route.

Cost: Free for individuals to walk at their own pace / A$2,500 for corporate team building groups of 20 pax includes lunch at a local establishment and a 10% contribution to our Purpose Partners.
